My House is a Mess

This actually isn't news...wish it were, but I'm one of those people who can't seem to keep it clean...the living room is always carpted by toys and newspapers and other falling objects, the kitchen sinks are always full of dishes...I don 't know how others do it...

well, I kind of do. Some people are just natually neat, and others, many others have help. I worked as a housecleaner (talk about ironic!) and saw the inside deal. People with more room, more storage arrangements, less children and such not still had heavy messes to clean. Often I was the one doing the cleaning...in all cases I did the wash/dust stuff, and that really helps. If you aren't worrying about the dishes you can get the toys.

I do feel tons of guilt over the way I clean  house, but the truth is, cleaning isn't a priority. I do not feel as flylady does that dusting my house is a blessing. It is a job, one I've always hated.

I can use any excuse that I want, but the truth is we do what we feel is most important and I just don't feel that way about dust and mess. My older kids complain, you know what? They add to the mess as well...

and if they aren't happy, let them dig in and help.

Can't Find the Way Back Home

Currently I am watching LOST...NOT AT THIS MOMENT...but you know. We downloaded a bunch and I'm watching a couple of day. Still on first season, so no spoilers please, I can ruin the surprise on my own.

But I got to thinking about all the "deserted Isle, or lost" types of shows, from the inane, Gilligans Isle, to the classic, Robinson Crusoe. What is it about being lost somewhere that is appealing to the mind?

Is it the ability to conquer adversity? Or is it the loss of everyday normal stress? Traffic, school, work etc. The survivors on LOST aren't particularly stressed out as they live their day to day lives.

They may be in fear at times, they may be bored by the lack of variety of food, they annoy and harrass each other...but they aren't coming down with ulcers.

Which is the overriding factor that compells one to watch/read such stories? The escape from routine or the challenge of survival or is it both?

And, if you watch the show, with whom do you most identify? How does that particular person speak to you?

Rock on Rat!

For those who don't see my other blog.
A cute, way to cute, little rodent called Laos Rock Rat, thought to have been from and extinct line of rodents called Diatomyidae has been discovered, well, discoverd by the west, the Laotians knew of it, alive and kicking.

Originally one was rediscovered last year in a meat market (I don't know, rat on a stick never appealed to me...but then everyone is grossed out by someone else's idea of food), scientist at first thinking they found a new species altogther. Then this year,Dr. David Redfield found living species while on an expedition in Southeast Asia.
WOW!
They have a term for this kind of discovery; the Lazarus affect.

Now I don't know about you all, but me thinkest that is cool.
And the little creatures are so darn cute and lovable!

I want one for my birthday!!!!
Yeah I know, not nice to do...I'll be satisfied with a plush doll.
My birthday is Jan 18, so you all have some time to get it for me Wink

Son's Home From The Army

He'll be here five days and then back to base. Soon after that he'll be doing tank duty. Whatever he's doing we'll worry...naturally enough. His friend came by, a very nice young man, and so we had company for dinner, which was also nice. AND we once again signed the lease on the house, stating we were renting yet again, and not yet ready to buy. I am bummed. We so want to buy and yet, no matter how hard we are working we can't meet the mortgage. We always seem to be on the losing end of things....

So There Was This Crash

Figured it was from the cat who had gone into the attic. The attic isn't finished, but we store all those items we should probably get rid of up there, and my dh has his computer up there. But unfinished here in Israel really does mean unfinished. The walls are just cement blocks, the pipes are exposed, the floor is gravel and the walls don't meet the roof. That's right, there are openings between the roof and the walls. And guess what likes to fly in through the gaps? (um, you did guess birds right?) So like I said, there was this crash...and I open the door to the attic... Down comes Chammomile, with her war conquest. Poor bird...The mighty hunter struck. Luckily dh came in just at that moment and I left the burial to him.... Glad she isn't an outdoor cat; she is one fast cat!

We are saying Goodbye

To our dog Caesar today. In about 40 minutes the vet will come and give him sleep. We waited too long, hoping he could hold out long enough for my older son to come say his goodbyes, but unfortunately it isn't to be. He has been such a good dog, loving and gentle....

He is 14 years old.

So A Little Bit about Me

I'm 48...I'm not so thrilled about being 48 to tell the truth...I just don't feel I'm where I wanted to be.cry Well, I guess that isn't too unusual.

I've five kids...they are great kids, My oldest is  24 (she JUST got married) I have two sons in the army (age 19 and 22) a 12 year old (who is home sick for the THIRD day in a row today) and a 7 year old (who was very upset that her sister got to stay home for the THIRD day in a row today.) I've a cat who had kittens. We are trying to find a home for two of the kittens. (they are very cute kittens) and we will keep one. We also have a dog, a Basset Hound, named Caesar who is unfortunately on his last legs. He is 14 years old, going blind, partially deaf and confused. He has a heart murmur and some bleeding something that we could operate on but he isn't likely to survive the operation...so, we just clean up. The wounds are life threatening as they are.

I am a slob, always was a slob, wish I wasn't a slob, but there you go. I've made many attempts to change, including joining flylady, which didn't help.

I'll just admit it. I need full time housekeeping services.

So nu, G-d, where's the money for that????

Really, I think G-d owes me a housekeeper.

And if He could make me a millionaire, why would I gripe?

Oh well....
